In the afternoon of Good Friday, through the cobbled streets of the historical center and in a unique atmosphere, a really evocative procession is held: the “Processione dei Misteri (the Procession of the Mysteries, the representation of events of the Passion)”. A step back in time with a unique event full of charm.
Every 19th of May, in the evocative setting of Castellamare del Golfo, the Feast of Santa Rita is celebrated. It is characterised by an imposing procession during which flag-wavers, musicians, knights and noblemen, in their medieval costumes, as well as hundreds of actors representing characters involved in the life of Santa Rita, parade through the main streets of the city.
The 20th edition of the Cous Cous Fest, the Festival of cultural integration, will take place from 15 to 24 September 2017.
Cous cous will be the star of the event: a poor traditional dish able to bring together, in this small village situated in the north-western part of Sicily, chefs from all over the world under the flag of integration and exchange. Tastings, gastronomic competitions, concerts, cooking lessons for adults and children, talk shows and exhibitions: an event not to be missed.
Unique in its kind and among the most important events of the Holy Week in Sicily, this Procession, also known as “I Misteri (The Mysteries)” and held in Buseto Palizzolo, is the representation of the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ, according to the Gospels. Sixteen (16) living pictures, on scenographic wagons, which alternate groups of believers in traditional penitential costume and various bands.
There’s a cave in Custonaci (in the province of Trapani) where, in the Christmas period, the Birth of Jesus Christ is celebrated. We are at Scurati, a rural hamlet, where locals (craftsmen, peasants, shepherds, women, children and men) become actors making us relive the everyday life of the past. The event reaches its culmination in the heart of the cave, with the representation of the Nativity. A truly unique experience worth visiting!
